History has a way of revealing truths that we didn't know in the present; a way of revealing in full what was only known in part. Photo by Moose Photos from Pexels. Words by me, of course. #haikusday #millennialAF

The fact that one's DNA expresses itself in melanated skin, textured hair, or that their ancestors hail from some non-European locale does not exclude them from the implicit biases commonly associated with being racist. It is not unheard of for BIPOC (Black/Indigenous/People of Color) to internalize racism, then propagate it themselves. To that end, the adjacency argument, wherein one's proximity to BIPOC relieves them of all real or perceived prejudices (RE: my brother-in-law is black or my neighbor is Mexican or, the classic, I have a Native American friend), is also invalid. Therefore, we should explore our implicit biases and work to cure those which do not contribute to our humanity overall. #haikusday #MPFA #makepoetryfunagain #millennialAF
