Episode #13: Inspired by "Legend" (Track 13 from Trench)
Another song inspired by family, this tune is an homage to the singer/songwriter's grandfather who passed away before hearing the final version. There is a lot to be said about family, but most of it sounds cliche. I'll let the poem and the song speak for themselves. I mean, they have words, don't they?

Episode #12: Inspired by "Smithereens" (Track 6 from Trench)
A sweet song about the singer/songwriter's wife with lyrics as straightforward as you'll get from this band. Not my favorite, but totally relatable. Episode #11: Inspired by "Hype" (Track 8 from Trench) Alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright. Here we are again. This time with a different track from Trench. As with many twenty one pilots' songs, there are so many layers it makes an onion cry. Here, watch the video for yourself. If you're not a fan, that video was bland, kinda weird, and meant nothing. But if that's the case...why are you still reading this..? Anyway, I've listened to this song many times and was fairly certain of its meaning. I mean, as confident as anyone can ever be about the meaning of a TOP song, which on a scale of 1 to 10 is about a -3. Then the video came out and
CONTINUED... Episode #10: Inspired by "My Blood" (Track 4 from Trench) You have made it to the third, and last, installment of my analysis of the song "My Blood" by Twenty One Pilots. This last theory is the most controversial because there is a lot of speculation around the meaning of TOP songs and who Tyler Joseph sings to in most of them, RE: "Ode to Sleep" " I'm not free, I asked forgiveness three times The same account of the singer's denial alludes to the biblical accounts of Peter denying Jesus three times before His crucifixion. This suggests that whom he adores and sings to is the Christian manifestation of God. In the same song, he continues to say he doesn't want to have the "sun's" (read: Son's) blood on his hands, which brings me to my final theory...
CONTINUED... Episode #10: Inspired by "My Blood" (Track 4 from Trench) Welcome back to part 2 of 3 of my song analysis for "My Blood". If you missed the first one, feel free to read that one, too. Let's jump right in. THEORY #2:
The big brother represents Tyler to his actual siblings, since he cannot always be physically there for them. I'm fairly certain that he's the oldest sibling in his family, so he makes a good candidate for big brother, although birth order is not the only thing I based this theory on. Here is an excerpt from "Stressed Out" where he references one of his brothers, in particular: Episode #10: Inspired by "My Blood" (Track 4 from Trench)
Welcome to the beginning of a three-part episode covering the track "My Blood" from Trench. It warrants so many episodes due to the varied interpretations of the song. So far, I have three theories of what this song means. They are not mutually exclusive: they overlap in many ways, which is probably intentional considering the complexity we have come to expect from Twenty One Pilots songs. I based my conclusions on my understanding of the overall vibe of Trench, the two music videos released for "My Blood", past and present song lyrics, interviews, and lore. THEORY #1 One of the most obvious theories, based on the full length music video, is that the big brother is a coping mechanism and figment of the main character's imagination. (This theory overlaps with my second theory, so check back next Thursday for that.) Trigger warning: suicide Although this particular piece is not referring to suicide or suicidal ideation, but rather the impermanence of the human existence, I understand that it could be interpreted that way. Sharing frivolous and whimsical poems is fun for me, but there are times when I write other kinds of poetry... the type that wrestles darker topics not necessarily intended for the light of day. Even so, I feel that the ideas lose their potency when exposed, so I'm compelled to share them. I am designating a "new" day to wallow in these dark places. I have named this day (wait for it) #SadderDay. Thank you, thank you very much. And yes, it requires a hashtag; better to share it with. Please enjoy and stay alive. If you like, please share and come back on the last Saturday of every month for more. #stayalive #kayenjee #SadderDay
Episode #9: Inspired by "Chlorine" (Track 5 from Trench)
Last year, I committed an entire blog month to the album "Trench" by Twenty One Pilots. That was an insufficient amount of time to cover all the material and was frankly a disgrace to the Clique. Fortunately, I'm too old for cliques. I lead a life outside of my mind and off of the internets which (sometimes) requires a great deal of focus and attention. Still, I have returned, the prodigal child, back to my unread blog to elaborate upon what I think the inner crevices of songwriters' minds look like, based on their body of work and unsubstantiated information I gather from quick Google searches. Here's where I left off.... TLDR: I'm baaaaaack! Now, with less artwork.

Episode #8: Inspired by "Morph" (Track 3 from Trench) I, too, have transformed back into the person who doesn't post regularly. Please accept my art as a way of saying, "Sorry, not sorry." IDK, but I made it, so I reserve all rights to it. Background pic by Skitterphot via Pexels. Original poetry is mine. I'm working on tying together the intentional and/or accidental correlations between the long narrative poem The Divine Comedy, authored by Dante Alighieri in the 14th century, and the fictional universe explored in the 2018 album Trench by Twenty One Pilots. That will be elaborated upon in a future series, but please, leave your theories in the comments.
