Episode #11: Inspired by "Hype" (Track 8 from Trench) Alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright. Here we are again. This time with a different track from Trench. As with many twenty one pilots' songs, there are so many layers it makes an onion cry. Here, watch the video for yourself. If you're not a fan, that video was bland, kinda weird, and meant nothing. But if that's the case...why are you still reading this..? Anyway, I've listened to this song many times and was fairly certain of its meaning. I mean, as confident as anyone can ever be about the meaning of a TOP song, which on a scale of 1 to 10 is about a -3. Then the video came out and The intro references "Screen" from Josh and Tyler's first album together Vessel, the whole video is giving us "Stressed Out" vibes, sans hanging microphone, and there's even some Christian imagery squeezed in there; add an increasingly copius amount of plaid and there you have it. "But, why?" you ask. "I don't know, " I reply. I think it goes a little something like this: ala "Screen" Tyler (singer/songwriter in this scenario) is lyrically transparent. We see into his heart through his, er, art. The band is shown playing for a small if not familiar crowd, who isn't terribly interested or impressed, perhaps representative of when they were first getting started and they performed for people they knew or who were "fairly local". Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week. Anyway, the crowd grows beyond people their close to, and their popularity exceeds the boundaries of their home, and probably their comfort zone. This would be the Blurryface era. Lastly, they are on top of the world, I mean, the house, and there are lots of fans, very enthusiastic, emulating the style of the band members. Here, they are shown at the apex of their career. After the bridge, per "Bandito", Tyler destroys it because he wants to, or that's my interpretation anyway. Now they've experienced their downfall back to solid ground with no audience. And who is there to pick up the pieces through telekinesis? No, not Josh, God. It sure did look like praying to me. "Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy handswithout anger or disputing." Hold on, is it praying? Or are they assuming some sacrificial stance, which could also be founded in Christian principles as well, as explore in my previous post. " ...I see a whole room of these mutant kids So, in conclusion....NOTHING MAKES SENSE!!! Hope you enjoyed wasting these moments you'll never get back. Until next time! #kayenjee #poemsaboutsongs #cliqueart #welcometotrench #ihavenohype
